MIKAELA SUNDQVIST

I’m a 43-year-old mother of a boy studying at Åbo Akademi University and the owner of a rescue dog from Hungary. Swedish-speaking Finn and proud of it! A Master of Science in Environmental Biology, who gets to use her expertise in her work as an environmental expert. For the first 18 years of my life I have lived in Satava, now I live in Linnakaupunki, next to Turku Castle.

I went into politics to make Turku greener and more active. This is what I still want to work for! Many things have gone in the right direction, but much remains to be done. I have served as a councillor for four seasons, gaining influence for example in in the City Board, several committees as well as on the boards of Turku Foundation of Business Education and Turun seudun puhdistamo Oy. Many things have gone in the right direction, but much remains to be done. I want to be part of building a sustainable Turku, where the environment and jobs are not seen competing with each other. An environmentally conscious city that understands that by protecting nature, we also protect the climate and us humans. An interesting tourist and higher education city, where history and environmental protection are seen as resources. A city that takes care of its residents, where there is something to do for people of all ages and where residents are better involved in the development of the city – in making Turku an even better place to live in!
